text: Feb. 1. Raymond [of Poitiers], Dei gratia Antiochenus princeps, with the agreement of his wife Constancia, only daughter of Prince Bohemond II, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. He confirms all that Bohemond II, his wife’s father, and Tancred and other princes and barones of Antioch gave in alms to the Order. He refers especially to a boat [grippus] on the Lake [of Antioch] with that freedom [of use] that Adam de Guirchia castellanus and his other barones possessed, and to the house built in Antioch by Barutellus and his wife Sarracena, which was to pass to the Order after the death of Barutellus. Raymond confirms gifts that would be made of casalia and gastinae, and all to be given in alms, provided that the fiefs of knights [feodum militis] are not diminished so that the curia loses servicium. He lists in Antioch: a house with a garden next to it near the church of St John Chrysostom; a cavuta in the vicus of the Amalfitans; and a little house [domumcula] in the vicus of St Paul; outside Antioch, the casalia of Assis, Ursan and Melessin given by Bohemond [of Taranto]; the casale of Balilas in the territory of Harenc; the casale of Churar in the territory of Aronia; the casale of Cizenburg in the territory of Turbassellum; before Tilium the gastina of Aganir and the casalia of Gadir and Ubre; the casale of Sarata in the territory of Mamistra; the casale of Muserac in the territory of Cafardam. [106] Hugo dominus Cesaree Palestine, with the agreement of his wife Isabella and his homines, makes an eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, represented by Girbertus prior Hospitalis magister. He gives a casale called Hadedun and 2 guastinae. The boundaries are as follows: to the west dunae….. of dominus Hugo Feustellus; to the north the land stretches as far as the river [flumaria] by way of an old berchile and ends [at] S. Michaelis… casale…of Engelbertus; to the east the boundary ends, by way of a bechile, with the casale of the [canons of the] Templum Domini; to the south by way of the turon Bufali it ends….with the land of Seraphia belonging to the archbishop, as far as a large lake [lacus]. Hugo adds to his gift a curtile that had belonged to Urricus Tendilla and the salt pans [salina] of Gervasius, with as much land as is needed to produce salt fully and to build houses for colonists [incolae]. In return for Hadedun he receives from the Hospital 2000 besants in charity. He gives Rochefort with an abbatia, Cava, Levonia, Tala, Bachfela, Gaigon, Glorieta with a spring that waters the gardens, casale S. Egidii with the torone de Belda, half of Rogia together with the other half which Bohemond has acquired from Reinaldus Masoerius and his heirs, Arcicant, Farmith, Femia with its lake, Logis, Bochabes with the casale de Pailes; other lordships and liege lordships [dominationes et liggianciae] that Femia has in Syria, Berssaphut, castellum de Lacoba and Totomota. With the consent of the inhabitants, Bohemond concedes all these, together with his lordships and liege lordships in them, with the agreement of those who have rights, feoda and heritages. The Hospitallers can make war and peace with neighbouring Muslim powers as they please and, when notified, Bohemond will observe them. On the other hand neither he nor his homines will make treaties with the Sarraceni, nor with any Christians allied to them, without the advice of the Hospitallers. If the Hospitallers are not consulted they can react as they please. They can enjoy all the proceeds of the spoils of war. He gives the casalia of Tyron and Corveis. The territory of the latter, stretching towards the castle [castellum] of Margat, has boundaries that were established by the Sarraceni in old times. He also gives the gastina of Meois, the garden before the door of the Hospital at Valenia, and the meadow [pratum] before the casale of Tyron, free from all exactions. He confirms the gift made to the Hospital by Abdelmessie raiz de Margat of three parts of the casale called Meserafe, so that in future all the produce will be shared with Georgius gener Abdelmessie, who holds the fourth part. They confirm the eleemosynary gifts of Mauricius Montis Regalis dominus to the Hospital.
