The Holy See refused to accept the appointment of Cardinal Th. of St Sabina as patriarch, because he was needed elsewhere in the Church. At the request of the prior and J. and. J. canonici Dominici Sepulcri that the Holy See should provide a pastor, Pope Gregory confirms that G[erold] has been translated from the bishopric of Valence to the patriarchate. The pope enjoins obedience.
