text: Jul. 29. Lateran. Pope Paschal II confirms Giraldus Montis Thabor archiepiscopus in his metropolitan rights over all Galilee and Tiberias. He grants him the right to wear the pallium, and specifies the feasts and occasions on which it should be worn. He takes the abbey of Mt Tabor under papal protection. He confirms the abbey’s possessions granted by Godfrey of Bouillon and his successor King Baldwin I. He lists the casalia that ought to belong to the abbey: Boria ad pedem Montis Thabor; Damia; Saronia; Cafarseth/Capharsech; Lubia; Sysara/Sisara; Casta; Capharkemen/Capharkeme; Messa; Meschia; Mangana; Capharmaza; Caphartamara/Cafartamara; Endor; Malufh/Maluph; Cara; Nurith; Sulem; Elfule; Eumesara; Naim; Erbeth/Irbeth; Caimun/Cannun; Capharsuma in the territory of Acre; Desurchain in the territory of Tyre; Alme ad turonem Sapheth; Alme; Neeme in terra Belinas; in terra Sueth: Auara, Zaar, Elleeram, Betaras, Arthe, Taletap, Capharsalia; in terra de Grosso villano: Aingene, Seecip, Eusenia, Sesia; Elgor; Zepheria in terra Auram Ayn; in terra de Bettaniᶒ/Bethanie, Zera, Alcotaim/Alcotain, Menan, Hecdix. text: Mar. 25 – Sept. 23. In the presence of many of his milites, Baldwin, rex Ierosolimitanus, makes an eleemosynary gift to the abbey of Mt Tabor. He confirms whatever belongs to the abbey and its monks, on condition that any property held by one of his knights should remain in that knight’s possession until his death, after which it will revert to the abbey. The names of the casalia are: Husie; Sesie; and others beyond the Jordan that are now held by Turks, Kaharthe; Teletarpe; Pereka; Ayton; Kafarsakai; Naame in monte Panya; Alma de Suchen on the mountains by Tyre; and on this side of the Jordan, Kapharchemme; Kapharseti; Sysara; Lubie and Erpelle; Casta; Mesara; Iubeim; Messa; Capharmater; Caphartamara; Salona; Maluf; Kara; Solem; Elful; Capharmanda; Creisum; Endor; Naim; Buria; Mangana; Noriz; Tubania; Ieluf. Raymond II, Dei gratia comes Tripolis, and Hodierna, eadem gratia Tripolis comitissa, make an eleemosynary grant, to the benefit of the souls of Counts Raymond I, Bertrand, William Jordan and Pons, and Raymond’s mother Sicilia, to the abbey of Mt Tabor, represented by Gaufridus abbas, Martinus prior, Garnerius monachus and Pontius Renuardi. They confirm the abbey’s possession of a casale called Bethamum/Bethsamum, with all its appurtenances, including a small part [particula] of it towards Bethelion/Bethelyon which was seized by Georgius Syrus. The territory of the casale ends in the east with the old road running between Botsoflam and Bethsamum. To the south it extends as far as the old road near Bethelyon; to the west as far as the land of St Mary of the Latins; and to the north as far as the casale of Petrus de Podio Laurentii called Monscucul. The abbot of Mt Tabor promises that a lamp will be lit on Mt Tabor for the souls of the count’s relations. Witnesses: Giraudus episcopus Tripolis; Giraldus Raphaniensis episcopus; Albericus prior Montis Peregrini; of the barones, Silvius constabularius; Petrus de Podio Laurentii; Willelmus Ebriacus; Guocelinus de Chalmunt; Willelmus de Crat; Petrus Raymundus de Balma and others. The pope also protects the abbey’s possessions from episcopal interference.

He confirms the gift made by Aelize on her deathbed of 2 adjoining gardens on the plain under Mont Pèlerin. To the east these gardens are bordered by the garden that belonged to Nicholaus Scriba. On the side facing towards Tripoli they are bordered by the garden of S. Maria de Turri and by the garden that belonged to Bertranus Milonis. [Towards Mt Pèlerin they are bordered by the garden of Dalmatius de Valriaz]. [171] The gift has been made on condition that a priest at the abbey shall celebrate Mass for Aelize every day and that her obit will be commemorated annually as if she was a monk. The king exchanges one of his staciones in Acre, in which herbs [herbe] are sold, which is situated next to a statio belong to the abbey of Mt Sion, for a statio that had belonged to Mt Tabor, which was situated before the house of Gaufridus Tortus on a site on which a gate of the city has now been constructed. Witnesses: Guido Ioppensis et Aschalonitanus comes; dominus Aimericus regius constabularius; Gaufridus Tortus; Reinaudus Sydonensis dominus; Gilebertus de Floriaco. The charter was drawn up by Guillelmus Tyrensis archiepiscopus dominique regis cancellarius.
