Patriarch Gerold of Jerusalem appends his seal to this confirmation. Iohannes Griffus and his wife held the land from St Mary of the Latins for an annual rent of 5 gold Saracen besants. The land is bounded on the east by the vineyard of Michael de Ierusalem, on the west by the garden of Pandolfus, on the south partly by the garden of the Knights Templar [355] and partly by the garden of Andreas de Wienna, and on the north by the garden of dominus Rollandus. Its entrance is from the public way before the garden of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. The Hospital of St Mary of the Germans will pay St Mary of the Latins the rent [census] of 5 gold Saracen besants on every Feast of All Saints, according to the usages and custom of the kingdom of Jerusalem [secundum usus et consuetudinem regni Ierosolimitani]. Guiccardus abbas ecclesie sancte Marie de Latina in Ierusalem and his chapter confirm under seal the sale by Giot and Iohan, the sons of Michael de Jerusalem, of a vineyard to frater Lutolfus and the convent of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans for 700 Saracen besants. Iohannes had held the vineyard from the abbey of St Mary of the Latins for a rent of 13 Saracen besants, payable each year on the Feast of All Saints. The Hospital of St Mary will now pay the same rent to the abbey. On the east is the vineyard that belonged to Iohannes de Conche. On the west is the garden of dominus Rollandus miles. On the south is the garden of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans and on the north is the public way. The vineyard cannot be alienated to milites, the sons of milites, religious communities or the members of [merchant] communes, and the abbey retains preemption rights.
