Baldwin, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Ierusalem Latinorum rex sextus, confirms under seal a purchase by Ioscelinus, his uncle and senescalcus, from Gaufridus Tortus, who, with the consent of his wife Flandrina and his son Gaufridus, has sold the casalia of Elgabacie, Hourfex, Carsilia, Cassie, Dere, Feenix, Bellum Uidere, which in Arabic [Sarracenice] is called Fassoue, Camsara, Terretrame, Accabara, Soroue, Sauroefoca, Tarrebresca and Deirbasta for 6000 besants with their lands and rustici, on condition that Seit and Guillelmus, the servientes of Gaufridus, retain the feodi of the scribania and drugumanagium, which they claimed in the king’s presence. Ioscelinus will owe the servicium of 2 milites for the casalia. Gaufridus Tortus is obliged to render servicium proportionate to the rest of his fief that he has retained. Gaufridus has requested that with this sale his debts are settled, so that he may retain the rest of his feodum. He refers especially to churches of the Holy Sepulchre at Acre, Tyre and Antioch, and those in the Latin empire, southern Italy, Sicily, Iberia, Poland, Bohemia, Hungary, Croatia [Sclavonia], Germany, France, Lombardy, Tuscany and England; and to tenements [tenimenta] at Tripoli and Gibelech, and a casale on Cyprus, together with a possession in Moravia. He confirms liberties acquired before the Fourth Lateran Council; the right to obtain chrism and holy oils from Latin diocesan bishops, or even from others; the ban on any brother leaving the community without licence from the patriarch or the prior; and freedom from the consequences of interdict.

At the request of Geraut Oliuer consele des Marsseiles en Accre and Reymond de Conches, who, representing the commune of Marseilles, the people of Montpellier and other Provençaux, came into his presence and that of his court, Henry, par la grace de deu Roi de Chypre, confirms for these merchants that they need pay dues of only 4 per cent on merchandise they bring from Europe [outremer] and sell, and that they can take out any goods they do not sell without payment of dues. They should pay the full tax on goods they buy in Cyprus. Should they bring merchandise from Konya [la terre de sultan de Come] or from lands on this side of the sea, they should only pay 4 per cent on goods they sell in Cyprus. If they take out goods they have not sold, they should pay 1 besant for each quintar of alum, 2 besants on each quintar of wool [laine], 1 per cent [356] on timber [?boquines], half a besant on each rote of silk and 1 per cent on rolls [draps] of silk and all other merchandise. The tax will be payable once on each voyage and will be taken at the point of disembarkment. All persons covered by this privilege will swear to maintain the security of the crown and to pay their dues; otherwise they will be charged the full rates of taxation.
