text: Nov. 2. Acre. Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Hierusalem Latinorum rex quartus, with the advice and agreement of his mother Queen Melisende, seals a peace treaty with the Pisans, who renounce all the claims on confiscated goods that they have brought against him and his homines, except for those relating to their honores that they are pursuing against the patriarch of Jerusalem, the clergy [clericatus] of Caesarea and the abbot and monks of St Mary of the Latins. The king, on his behalf and on that of his homines, renounces all claims and confiscations made against the Pisans. The Pisans promise to keep security and faith [salvum et fidum] with the king. They will protect him and his subjects homines by sea and land and will do their best to prevent other persons harming them. The king makes the same promise of security, protection and faith to the Pisans. King Baldwin excludes from this agreement the sale in Egypt of iron, wood, pitch, [pix] or arms, which can be confiscated without breaching the treaty. The king gives the Pisans a viscounty in Tyre, the holder of which can judge the Pisans in their own court [curia], reserving only to royal justice cases involving death sentences [traditio mortis]. He gives the Pisans 5 carrucate of good land next to Tyre and an oven in Tyre. He confirms King Baldwin II’s grant to the Pisans of 5 houses in the ruga next to the port of Tyre free of rent [tributum vel redditum] and freedom from taxes on their shipping [naves] and goods in the port, although pilgrims and other men (who are not Pisan merchants) would not be exempt. The goods of Pisans who died would not be subject to any restrictions or taxation. Baldwin wishes his brother Amalricus comes Ascalonitanus to make peace with the Pisans. Raimundus magister Hospitalis, with the consent of all the brothers of his chapter, cleric or lay, gives the abbess and nuns of St Lazarus all the tithe the Hospital had in the casale of Bethaanina in exchange for a vineyard that is bordered on the east by a vineyard belonging to the Hospital, on the south by a vineyard belonging to St. Anne, on the north by the road that goes to Nablus as far as the crossroads [bivium] of S. Stephanus. The vineyard is granted by Joeta with the consent of all the nuns and chapter of St Lazarus. Amalricus comes Ascalonis makes a sealed eleemosynary grant, confirming for the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, represented by Hugo dictus de Tharso, decanus Joppensis, the sale for 52 besants to Hugo of a pecia, consisting of two parts of a vineyard, by a Surianus called Naym. Amalricus gives the third part of the vineyard, which had belonged to him, to the decanus and brothers of the Holy Sepulchre, to which he adds whatever belonged to him in the vineyard of the Surianus Menferretus. The 2 pecię were next to the vineyard of the Holy Sepulchre on the eastern side. In return for this Hugo makes a counter-gift to Amalricus of 100 besants. Hugo de Ybelino, with the consent of his brothers Balduinus and Barisanus, his sister Hermengardis, his mother Alois and his uncles Philippus de Neapoli, Guido Francigena and Henricus Bubalus, sells to the canons of the Holy Sepulchre Huetdebes with its villani and Deirmugsin with its villani, which Hugo’s father Barisanus had given to Muisse Arrabit and his son Georgius and which had then been willingly exchanged by Muisse Arrabit and Georgius. Hugo, forced by the need to pay ransom for his release from captivity, sells the casalia, freed from all servitium dominium, for 3000 besants.
