text: Jan. 28. Anagni. Pope Gregory IX recalls the efforts made over 10 years by the abbas et conventus monasterii Bellimontis, of the Cistercian Order, to recover the casale of Peregus, occupied by W. miles de Riveto. In spite of the interventions of the late Cardinal Pelagius of Albano, the papal legate, and the papacy, the case has not been resolved due to the difficulty of finding judge delegates. The abbey now has possession of the casale, but, although W. de Riveto and nearly all his family are dead, the case is not resolved. The pope orders the bishop of Tripoli, the bishop of Tortosa [Antaradensis episcopus] and the cantor Antaradensis to re-examine it.

text: Jul. 28. Perugia. Repeating that he is delivering ‘wiser advice’, Pope Gregory IX reprimands Iohannes de Ibelino, pointing out that he has waited a long time for action from Iohannes, who has behaved in the opposite fashion, provoking the emperor Frederick, seducing the people of Acre from his lordship and encouraging them to besiege Tyre. This damages the Holy Land and injures the pope as well as the emperor. Since he does not want Syria to be shaken by war induced by Iohannes, the pope is writing to the decanus Antiochenus, who is the vicarius of the patriarch, ordering him to compel Iohannes to refrain from challenging the emperor’s rights and seizing his lands. Pope Gregory writes similar letters to the decanus Antiochenus and the people of Acre.
