Pope Gregory IX has heard that the prince of Antioch and other Latins have been handing lands to Greeks, Armenians and others, who do not pay tithes, receiving, in place of tithes, a due that is commonly called monet. The patriarch of Antioch has complained that Prince Bohemond [V] of Antioch has refused to receive investiture of Antioch from him or take the customary oath of fidelity to the church, which he is injuring in violation of the terms of the agreement reached with his father Prince Bohemond [IV]. He has denied the rights of jurisdiction of the castellanus castri Cursarii, an official of the church, who had condemned the murderer of a priest to death, and has challenged the jurisdictional rights of the church. Pope Gregory IX orders the archbishop of Tyre and the bishops of Acre and Tortosa [Anteradensis episcopus], to whom he also writes, to compel the prince to make satisfaction.
