text: †Oct. 1 1102 – Dec. 2 1105. Hugo, abbot of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, announces to all Christian people that, with the advice of Patriarch Evremar, Cardinal [Ode]risius [of Montecassino], King Baldwin I, and the whole church of Jerusalem, including the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, he has begun to rebuild the church of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, which had been so destroyed by the pagans that a Benedictine community cannot be established. He founds a confraternity to help finance the reconstruction. He promises the confratres 2 Masses a week at the tomb of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one for the living, the other for the dead. A long list of confratres contains almost entirely the names of individuals residing in Norman southern Italy, the only possible settlers being Willelmus de Buris and Hugo de Puteolis.
