With the agreement of his chapter, Rainaldus ecclesie Montis Syon minister confirms under seal an exchange made with King Amalric [between Feb. 18 1163 and Dec. 24 1173], in which the abbey surrendered a vineyard at the foot of Mt Sion, below the house known as that of Germanus, together with another little vineyard [vineola] adjacent to it to the south, at the crossroads next to the house of Germanus, in exchange for a vineyard next to the church of St Procopius. The purpose is to construct a pool [lacus] for the use of all Christians [on the site of the vineyards]. In the [royal] curia and in the presence of Baldwin, Iherosolimitanus rex Latinorum sextus, with the willing advice of his brother Balianus and the agreement of his daughters Eschiva and Stefania and their husbands Hemericus and Amalricus vicecomes Neapolitanus, and the consent of Petrus and Henricus, the brothers of Iohannes the son of Georgius Arrabicus, Balduinus Ramatensis dominus, confirms under seal the sale by Iohannes Arrabicus to domina Con[stanc]ia comitissa Sancti Egidii, the sister of the king of France, of the casale of Bethduras for 5800 besants. Iohannes the son of Georgius Arrabicus held the casale in fief [in feudo] from Balianus, and Balianus in turn from Balduinus Ramatensis and Balduinus Ramatensis from King Baldwin IV. No rights of lordship and service [dominium vel servitium] will be retained by Balduinus Ramatensis or the king except for the scribanagium of Georgius de Betheri. Rainaldus quondam Antiochie princeps, nunc Hebronsensis et Montis Regalis dominus, and his wife Stephania, with the agreement of his homines and her sons, make a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. They confirm the eleemosynary gifts of Mauricius Montis Regalis dominus to the Hospital. These are specified as: a casale in the territory of Mons Regalis called Benisalem with its villani on both sides of the river; in the vicus of Mons Regalis, Caissar filius Tamin with his heirs and possessions, and land which is situated between the vineyard of Seguinus and [that of] Gullelmus Hasin; a house in Mons Regalis; a casale called Canzil in the territory of Petra with its rustici and with a gastina called Hable which is adjacent to it; a house in Petra; land next to the vineyard that belonged to Johannes Castellanus and afterwards to the archbishop; a ship [navis] for transporting Hospitaller goods, freed from any duty [sine precio vel munere]. Rainaldus and Stephania confirm the Hospital’s possession of a small herb garden [ortus pro habendis herbis], previously given by Stephania. They also give partly cultivated land which dominus Tebaldus de Betun had held in the Vallis Riparie during his lifetime.
