The lands involved are as follows. The monks have a pecia terre, which is adjacent to the land of Balatas and next to the viridarium S. Salvatoris. This belonged to the casale of Aschar, but on it is planted a vineyard belonging to the casale of Balatas. Another pecia terre, which Tarcanus held and belonged to the casale of Balatas, has been [exchanged] by the abbess of St Lazarus and nuns for land held by Beseror, which depended on the casale of Aschar. text: May 15. Velletri. Pope Alexander III grants privileges and confirmation to Rodericus magister domus sancte Marie Montis Gaudii de Jerusalem and his professed brothers. He takes the Order of Montjoie under papal protection and approves a Rule based on that of the Cistercians, with exceptions for those brothers engaged in warfare. He confirms the following possessions: the locus [on] Mons Gaudii where the house of the Order is situated, outside the walls of Jerusalem; Toanasaba given by King Baldwin III, the Turris Puellarum with 3 other towers and a garden adjacent in the city of Ascalon; 100 besants [aurei] drawn annually from the funda of Ascalon; Palmaria given by Guido de Scandalione; 300 besants [aurei] drawn annually from the logia in Acre where bread is sold; 400 besants [aurei] drawn annually from the Gate of David [in Jerusalem] ; and properties in Iberia. [165] The Order is permitted to build oratories in remote places. It is exempted from much episcopal jurisdiction, although its churches should be subject to local bishops and it should show respect to the abbot of Cîteaux. It is freed from the payment of tithes and first fruits on lands cultivated by the brothers themselves or providing animal fodder or on newly established churches and villae in deserted places. It can admit secular priests and laymen.

He confirms the gift made by Aelize on her deathbed of 2 adjoining gardens on the plain under Mont Pèlerin. To the east these gardens are bordered by the garden that belonged to Nicholaus Scriba. On the side facing towards Tripoli they are bordered by the garden of S. Maria de Turri and by the garden that belonged to Bertranus Milonis. [Towards Mt Pèlerin they are bordered by the garden of Dalmatius de Valriaz]. [171] The gift has been made on condition that a priest at the abbey shall celebrate Mass for Aelize every day and that her obit will be commemorated annually as if she was a monk. Baldwin, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Ierusalem Latinorum rex sextus, confirms under seal the possession by his uncle Ioscelinus senescalcus regis of an assisia, returning annually 1000 besants drawn in the fonda of Acre, which Baldwin’s relation [consanguineus] Philippus Rufus holds for life, until Philippus has fully repaid the 2000 besants for which he pledged the assisia. Ioscelinus must owe the king servitium of 2 milites until Philippus repays the debt. But should Philippus die before repayment, the service of 2 milites will not be demanded until the king himself restores the 2000 besants.
