He gives St Lazarus 10 carruatae terre in Casale Galteri de Bulion, in the presence of his mother Stephania, of Barisanus, of Hugo and Balduinus the sons of Barisanus and the nephews of Reinerius, and of Ysabella his wife and the sister of Barisanus. Barisanus and his son Hugo and Balduinus confirm the gift. Reinerius had already given 2 carruatae in the casale of Buflis; to these are now added the 10 carruatae from the Casale Galteri de Bulion. Barisanus has no seal, but the Templars allow him to make use of theirs, which is attached by Petrus, frater atque capellanus militum Templi, who has drawn up the charter. text: Feb. 1. Raymond [of Poitiers], Dei gratia Antiochenus princeps, with the agreement of his wife Constancia, only daughter of Prince Bohemond II, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. He confirms all that Bohemond II, his wife’s father, and Tancred and other princes and barones of Antioch gave in alms to the Order. He refers especially to a boat [grippus] on the Lake [of Antioch] with that freedom [of use] that Adam de Guirchia castellanus and his other barones possessed, and to the house built in Antioch by Barutellus and his wife Sarracena, which was to pass to the Order after the death of Barutellus. Raymond confirms gifts that would be made of casalia and gastinae, and all to be given in alms, provided that the fiefs of knights [feodum militis] are not diminished so that the curia loses servicium. He lists in Antioch: a house with a garden next to it near the church of St John Chrysostom; a cavuta in the vicus of the Amalfitans; and a little house [domumcula] in the vicus of St Paul; outside Antioch, the casalia of Assis, Ursan and Melessin given by Bohemond [of Taranto]; the casale of Balilas in the territory of Harenc; the casale of Churar in the territory of Aronia; the casale of Cizenburg in the territory of Turbassellum; before Tilium the gastina of Aganir and the casalia of Gadir and Ubre; the casale of Sarata in the territory of Mamistra; the casale of Muserac in the territory of Cafardam. Raymond gives the Hospital the freedom to import and export, buy and sell throughout his land without paying dues [consuetudines/ exactio curie]. text: Jan. 1 – Aug. 31. Melisende, dei gratia Ierosolimorum regina, with the agreement of her son Baldwin rex Jerusalem, records that she has made a sealed eleemosynary grant, exchanging property with Raimundus Hospitalis pauperum Christi provisor. The Hospital of St John of Jerusalem has made over to her a bath house in the vicus of St Leonard in Acre. In return Melisende has given a logia before the doors of the basilica of St John the Baptist and houses that had belonged to Franco castellanus Acconensis, which Melisende had claimed and had reverted to the crown. Melisende also adds to the exchange land [terra] on the right side of the road that runs from Acre to Casale Album, belonging to the camerarius. The other three sides of the land are bounded by Casale Album, Disderum and the property of Suriani. Melisende, together with King Baldwin, confirms under seal a purchase made on behalf of the Hospital by the aforesaid Raimundus, tutor pauperum, of a house with a tower adjacent to it, which had belonged to Robertus vicecomes Acconensis. The purchase was legitimately made in the presence of Clarembaldus vicecomes Acconensis, with the agreement of Agnes, the wife of Robertus and the mother of Clarembaldus. Melisende confirms a purchase made by the aforesaid Frater Raimundus for the use of the poor and the hospital [xenodochium] of a casale called Assera from Johannes domnus de Bethsan, although Johannes has retained the rustici. Witnesses of the exchange: Geraldus de Valentia vicecomes, who presided over the exchange; Menardus de Portu; Deauratus and others. text: May 24. Rotbertus de casali S. Egidii and his wife Odula state that, with the agreement of Rohardus and his wife domina Gilla, from whom they held the feudum, and with the confirmation of King Fulk, Queen Melisende and Patriarch William, they had leased the land [of Emaus] to Raimundus magister and the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, on condition that Raimundus and the Hospitallers gave them 500 besants a year, half payable at Easter and half on the Feast of All Saints, as recorded in charters issued by the king of Jerusalem and the patriarch. But now, in changed circumstances, Raimundus magister and the brothers of his chapter have agreed to a modification of terms requested by Rotbertus and Odula. The rent will in future by paid annually in 3 instalments: 200 besants at Easter, 100 on the Feast of St John the Baptist, 100 on the Feast of All Saints and 100 at Christmas. If the rent is not forthcoming for 40 days Robert and Odula can reoccupy the land until the rent is paid. Their lord Rohardus and his wife Gilla agree as an eleemosynary grant that up to 100 besants can be sold to, exchanged with or given to the Hospital. Should the family of Rotbertus fail and the feudum revert to its lord, the Hospital will be bound solely to pay a rent of 400 besants a year. To compensate the leprosary of St Lazarus, which owned the mill, she makes a sealed eleemosynary gift to St Lazarus of a 5 terre carruatae of vines on the plain of Bethlehem on condition that Georgius and Salomon, the cultivators of the vineyard, receive half the produce of their labour. Raimundus also accepts houses in burgo, given in alms by Count Raymond of Tripoli, together with a casale called Cendina, which is across the river, and a vineyard which had belonged to Hassennus Riserius. He also acquired the houses in castello left to the Hospital by Rigaudus, who has died. Melisende, divina largiente clementia Iherosolimorum regina, with the consent of her sons King Baldwin III and Amalricus Ioppensium comes, renounces under seal her claims against the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, with respect to the villani of Bethsuric, namely Selmen filius Maadi; Habderahmen; Selim; Hasem; Nasen; Mekedem/Melpedem/Melpeclem; Seleemen; Sade; Brahin; Kannet; Nasser; Ariz; Mahmut; Zafer; Demsis; Resselem; Tameh; Rosec; Sahe; Salem filius Sade and the others, and the land in the casale. The canons are to have these as freely as they did in the time of Duke Godfrey [of Bouillon].
