text: Jan. 1 – Aug. 31. Melisende, dei gratia Ierosolimorum regina, with the agreement of her son Baldwin rex Jerusalem, records that she has made a sealed eleemosynary grant, exchanging property with Raimundus Hospitalis pauperum Christi provisor. The Hospital of St John of Jerusalem has made over to her a bath house in the vicus of St Leonard in Acre. In return Melisende has given a logia before the doors of the basilica of St John the Baptist and houses that had belonged to Franco castellanus Acconensis, which Melisende had claimed and had reverted to the crown. Melisende also adds to the exchange land [terra] on the right side of the road that runs from Acre to Casale Album, belonging to the camerarius. The other three sides of the land are bounded by Casale Album, Disderum and the property of Suriani. Melisende, together with King Baldwin, confirms under seal a purchase made on behalf of the Hospital by the aforesaid Raimundus, tutor pauperum, of a house with a tower adjacent to it, which had belonged to Robertus vicecomes Acconensis. The purchase was legitimately made in the presence of Clarembaldus vicecomes Acconensis, with the agreement of Agnes, the wife of Robertus and the mother of Clarembaldus. Melisende confirms a purchase made by the aforesaid Frater Raimundus for the use of the poor and the hospital [xenodochium] of a casale called Assera from Johannes domnus de Bethsan, although Johannes has retained the rustici. Witnesses of the exchange: Geraldus de Valentia vicecomes, who presided over the exchange; Menardus de Portu; Deauratus and others. Melisende, divina largiente clementia Iherosolimorum regina, with the consent of her sons King Baldwin III and Amalricus Ioppensium comes, renounces under seal her claims against the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, with respect to the villani of Bethsuric, namely Selmen filius Maadi; Habderahmen; Selim; Hasem; Nasen; Mekedem/Melpedem/Melpeclem; Seleemen; Sade; Brahin; Kannet; Nasser; Ariz; Mahmut; Zafer; Demsis; Resselem; Tameh; Rosec; Sahe; Salem filius Sade and the others, and the land in the casale. The canons are to have these as freely as they did in the time of Duke Godfrey [of Bouillon]. Agnes, the wife of Galius miles, who is now a brother of the Hospital of St John [frater et humilis servus pauperum Iherusalem], makes an eleemosynary grant, giving the Hospital of St John her houses [in Acre], although the Hospitallers allow her to retain for her own use one of them, consisting of a palacium, stables [stabularia], cistern and court [curia]. She presents the gift to Clarembaldus vicecomes Acconensis and [through him] to frater Giraldus Hugonis preceptor totius domus Hospitalis Iherusalem, frater Giraldus magister de Accon and other brothers, including Petrus Amelius capellanus, Antelmus, Berengarius, Pons custos infirmorum and Petrus de Limoges. The Hospitallers promise her in return a life rent of 80 besants a year, payable on the Feast of St Peter at the beginning of August. [72] They add a worked samite cloth [unum samittum ad opus] for her daughter Laureta. If she should wish to leave Acre to live in Jerusalem or in any place in the Latin East, the Hospitallers will add another 10 besants a year according to her station in life, although they will then take possession of all her properties [in Acre]. Raimundus magister Hospitalis, with the consent of all the brothers of his chapter, cleric or lay, gives the abbess and nuns of St Lazarus all the tithe the Hospital had in the casale of Bethaanina in exchange for a vineyard that is bordered on the east by a vineyard belonging to the Hospital, on the south by a vineyard belonging to St. Anne, on the north by the road that goes to Nablus as far as the crossroads [bivium] of S. Stephanus. The vineyard is granted by Joeta with the consent of all the nuns and chapter of St Lazarus. Avis abbatissa Sancte Marie Grandis, with the consent of her nuns, in particular Odulina, Sole [Solis] and Gaudelena, grants the Hospital of St John half the tithe she took on the vineyard, in the presence of Petrus de Sancto Lazaro, Lambertus Cambiator and Stephanus Umbertus.
