text: Sept. 14 1214 - Feb. 20 1215. [300] Frater Gaufridus thesaurarius domus Templi reports to Pope Innocent III that he delivered the pope’s letters on the matter of [the marriage of] dominus Erardus and domina Philippa to the late Patriarch Albert of Jerusalem and the archbishop of Tyre. The patriarch and the archbishop summoned Erardus and forbade him in the pope’s name to contract marriage under pain of excommunication. They also interviewed Philippa in the palatium of the king and issued the same prohibition. But shortly afterwards Erardus and Philippa married secretly, in defiance of the papal mandate. [301]
