Wishing to reward those who are helping him defend Tyre and with the advice and consent of magister Monachus Cesariensis archiepiscopus, domnus Litardus Nazarenus archiepiscopus, domnus Odo Sydonie episcopus, frater Terri domus milicie Templi magnus preceptor and other Knights Templar, frater Burellus magnus preceptor Hospitalis and other brother Hospitallers, and the milites and burgenses of Tyre and all the comune civitatis, Corradus, the son of the marquess of Montferrat, makes a sealed grant to the burgenses of St Gilles and Montpellier and the cives of Nîmes, Marseille and Barcelona, represented by Petrus Cebaldus, Bernardus Ascie, Bernardus de Bresciacha, Raimundus de Mozano, Petrus de Monuello, Brisogaualdan and Paganus Sancti Egidii, consuls of the aforesaid comunes, and Petrus de Mezoaco vicecomes of the aforesaid people [gens]. He grants the freedom of Tyre; the right to have a curia; the right to enter and leave by land or sea without the payment of terciaria or other drictura; the offices of vicecomes and consul to preside over the curia, which can judge the scapuli and burgenses and all who lease property from the aforesaid comunes in all cases, except for sentences of blood [de furto rapina raptu tradicione et mortis dacione et si ferro moluto aliquem percusserint, unde sanguis extrahatur] which are reserved to the royal curia. He grants the palacium viride, a casale called Maraclea and an oven situated before the house of domna Vita. He assures them of security of possessions in cases of shipwreck; freedom of movement throughout the kingdom unimpeded by subjects of the crown or barones; and the right to their own weights and measures [statera et pensae et modia et mensurae] to use when dealing with one another in wine, oil and all things. Should the cities of the kingdom be recovered, they will enjoy the same rights in them as have been conceded in Tyre. text: May 1-31. Tyre. In the castellum. Conradus marchionis Montisferrati filius records under seal that he has confirmed for the Pisans of the societas Vermiliorum, who were in the city of Acre, all their houses, a bath house, an oven, the church of St Peter and all the empty land between the funda regis and the Gate of Jofredus Tortus in Acre. The land stretches [on one side] along the public way that runs in a straight line by the funda regis to the gate of the city near the cemetery and on the other as far as the sea. Conradus has also given: [a rent of] 2000 besants to be drawn each year from the funda and catena of Acre in the instalments established for assisia; outside Acre a water mill [molendinum aque] near the city, together with a good garden; in the region of Acre, casale Sancti Georgii, which had belonged to Henricus Bufalus, and Castellum Novum Regis, which had belonged to comes Iozelinus. These grants are made with the freedom to treat them in the Pisanorum curia or establish their boundaries as the societas wishes. They are freed from all talia, tributum and servicium, because of the service already rendered in the defence of Christianity and Tyre. text: Apr. 11. Tyre. In the hospitium of Bernardus de Templo Tyrensis vicecomes. Mindful of the magnificent contribution the city of Genoa made to the liberation of the eastern regions, its defence [of Tyre] and now the part its consul, nobles and citizens, with milites, pedites, balistarii and sagittarii, and siege engines, are playing in the siege of Acre, Conradus, marchionis Montisferrati filius, Tyri atque Sydonis et Berithi domnus, makes a sealed grant to the commune of Genoa and its citizens, represented by Guido de Spinula Ianuensium consul. He gives them a free curia in the city of Tyre, freedom to come and go by sea or land, to buy and sell in the fundicum of Tyre without the payment of any dues, and freedom from prosecution for any crime except homicide, theft and rape, and from imprisonment. He grants them the freedom to use their own weights and measures [cantarii, buzae et modii] in Tyre. He gives them casale Sancti Georgii, Oraca, a large garden belonging to the queen and small gardens situated under the castelletum and within the city wall near the castellum, and a large mill that belonged to the king; a bath house before the house of Fulco de Falesia, in which both men and women bathe, the oven in the burgus novus with a volta adjacent to it, a macellum with 3 houses, a platea that stretches as far as the house of Habraha piscator, and all the houses in 2 insulae which are in front of the macellum, extending on one side as far as the house of Tebaldus aurifex and on the other to the house of magister Petrus Ianuensis, as contained in the charter from Count Raymond [III] of Tripoli; a third part of the proceeds of the cathena of Tyre, after expenses have been deducted; and the house of Opicio Lumbardus situated over the port of Tyre, which is bounded by the house of Obertus de Sandala, the house of Gandulfus Saonensis, the public way and a private road [via privata], together with all the houses and tenement held by Opicius behind his house and beyond the private road.
