[257] Bohemond, the son of Prince Bohemond of Antioch, Dei gratia Tripolis comes, records an agreement with Matheus Minchet vicecomes Pisanorum Tripoli, and Gandulfus, Bandinus and Ugo, emissaries [nuncii] of the consules of the Pisans in Acre. Petrus Tripolis episcopus had challenged the rights of free entry and departure with merchandise from Tripoli and the exemption of a third part of terciaria. The Pisans had claimed that the count had no rights in the funda of the Pisans in Tripoli or over the entry or departure from Tripoli with merchandise. Bohemond confirms that the Pisans already had these rights and receives in exchange a gift of 500 Saracen besants. He adds the following gifts: the right to take a rotula of sugar each day from the sugar press [masarium] in his casale called Fiergio for the needs of the sick in the hospital; in Casale Vmberti and his other casalia in the region of Acre the right to take each year 1 clicha of wheat and 1 clicha of barley from every worked carruca, to be provided by the rustici; 5 carrublae paid by the rustici for every 100 goats wintering in Aimery’s land, and 2 out of the 10 carrublae which Aimery levies for every 10 goats; 3 karrublae provided by the rustici for every carrucata owing Aimery 2 besants. Aimery confirms the eleemosynary gifts and old freedom [francisia] granted to the hospital in Cyprus by King Amalric. Bohemond has given this rent to the Hospital of St John in repayment of the debt of 37000 Saracen besants owed by Count Raymond [III] of Tripoli, for which the assisia of 4000 Saracen besants held by Bohemond had been pledged, with the agreement of previous kings of Jerusalem. The Hospitallers will receive payment in 4 instalments of 250 besants each, payable [by royal officials] each 3 months.
