If in any year the nuntius of the Hospital cannot collect a whole quintarium of sugar, he can apply in the following year for the balance to be made up. With the agreement of Prince Bohemond III of Antioch and his son Bertrandus, Rainaldus Masoerius dominus Margatti makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the sick and brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, Rogerius domus Hospitalis magister and frater Garnerius Hospitalis preceptor. He gives all of Rogia with all its dependencies and raitabiles villani and with whatever lordship he has, freed from all servicium. He will, however, have usufruct of half of Rogia during his lifetime. After his death or in the event that he decides to enter the religious life, that half will pass to the Hospital. He gives an annual rent of 50 litrae of wine, drawn in equal measures from 2 vineyards, one on a piece of land in one of his vineyards and the other at Terra Blanca. He adds another 25 litrae of wine, to be drawn from a vineyard above the land of Chanteperdiz, held by the baronus Guillelmus/Willelmus Magnus, who, together with Robertus Evronis, ought to give the rent to the lepers. Because Adam Magnus has no seal, he has his charter sealed by the canons of the Holy Sepulchre. text: Feb. 1. [203] Margat. Bertrandus Margati dominus, the son of dominus Reinaldus, quondam ejusdem castelli dominus, with the agreement Prince Bohemond III of Antioch, Count Raymond III of Tripoli and his wife domina Bermunda, with the advice and at the instigation of dominus Anterius Valenie episcopus, and with the agreement of all his men [homines], both milites and burgenses, having ius, feudum or hereditas in the territory, makes a sealed and masked eleemosynary grant for the support of the poor in the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, represented by dominus Rogerius de Molins, eiusdem domus magister. He gives the castle [castrum] called Margat with all its lands and rights, including his dominationes and ligiantiae. In return, the magister, his successors and brothers will pay Bertrandus and his legitimate heirs 2200 Saracen besants each year, payable in the city of Tripoli by the castellan [castellanus] of Cractum in 4 instalments, namely 550 besants each at Easter, the Nativity of St John the Baptist, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross and Christmas. If Bertrandus should die without legitimate heirs, the Hospital will pay Bermunda, or another legitimate wife, 1200 besants each year, retaining the balance of 1000 besants as an alms gift. If on the death of Bertrandus there are heirs, the rent should be divided, with 1100 going to his wife for her lifetime and 1100 to his heirs. The 2200 Saracen besants will thereafter go totally to the heirs, but if the line should fail, the rent will revert as an alms-gift to the Hospital.
