Guy, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Ierusalem Latinorum rex VIIIus, his wife the Lady Queen Sibylla make a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans, represented by magister Sibrandus, who founded this hospital during the siege of Acre. They give a house in Acre which had been a hospice for Armenians and patrones, [230] out of which can be established a hospital. If the gift of the house proves to be impossible, Guy and Sibylla will give the platea next door, where a hospital can be built. They also give 4 carrucate terre in the territory of Acre. With the agreement of his wife domna Ysabella regis Amalrici filia, Aimery, per dei gratiam rex Ierusalem nonus et rex Cipri, records under seal that he has sold the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans a casale in the region of Acre called Aguille with its villani and gastinae for 3000 Saracen besants. He adds the following gifts: the right to take a rotula of sugar each day from the sugar press [masarium] in his casale called Fiergio for the needs of the sick in the hospital; in Casale Vmberti and his other casalia in the region of Acre the right to take each year 1 clicha of wheat and 1 clicha of barley from every worked carruca, to be provided by the rustici; 5 carrublae paid by the rustici for every 100 goats wintering in Aimery’s land, and 2 out of the 10 carrublae which Aimery levies for every 10 goats; 3 karrublae provided by the rustici for every carrucata owing Aimery 2 besants. Aimery confirms the eleemosynary gifts and old freedom [francisia] granted to the hospital in Cyprus by King Amalric. Aimery, dei gratia rex Ierusalem nonus et rex Cipri, records that Paulus and his brother, the sons of Theodericus de Sarepta, came into his presence and that of his curia and also of the curia of his iurati, and renounced their claims to a house with a garden in Tyre, which the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans had been given in a charter by comes Henricus and his wife domna Isabella, regis Amalrici filia. At Aimery’s request the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans give Paulus and his brother 200 besants. With the agreement of his wife the Lady Queen Isabella, Aimery confirms under seal the brothers and the sick of St Mary of the Germans in possession of the house and garden. text: Sept. 4. Bohemond, dei gratia princeps Anthiochie et comes Tripolis, makes a sealed grant to the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans. He gives a pecia terre, which belongs to him and is situated within the town [burgus] of Tripoli next to the main wall [prope magistrum murum] of the burgus, but he reserves houses built on the land held by him and his homines. The land is bounded on the east by the staircase [gradus] of the great tower of the main wall. It stretches as far as the land of the bishop of Tripoli and from there to the wall of the Temple, which is to the west and adjoins the main wall of the burgus. It ought to be distinguished from Bohemond’s land and the land of Berengerus de Sura, near the boundary of the land of the Temple. Bohemond also gives the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans 3 towers on the stretch of wall between the staircase already mentioned and the land of the commandery [domus] of the Temple, on condition that nothing is built other than houses for its mansio, that if the wall of the burgus is damaged in consequence of its building work, it is bound to repair it, and that the prince and his homines can enter and leave by the posterns in the wall.
