Pope Honorius III orders the patriarch of Antioch and his suffragans in the patriarchate to promote the study of theology, with a magister theologus in each archdiocese as decreed by the [Fourth Lateran] Council, at the same time forbidding the teaching and study of civil law in Paris and repeating Pope Alexander III’s excommunication of those who did not return to their communities within 2 months of completing courses in civil law or medicine.
