text: Feb./Mar. Council of Benevento. Two ambassadors sent to Pope Paschal II by Roger Antiochenus princeps and Patriarch Bernard of Antioch have asked that the pope restore the rights of the church of Antioch over the churches of Tyre, Beirut, Sidon and Acre, and all of the province [of Tyre] to the River [Belus/Na‘aman] [ad flumen quod iuxta Accon mare influit]. These dioceses have been detached and made subject to the patriarchate of Jerusalem. The pope refuses, citing the decree of pope Urban II at the council of Clermont, at which the First Crusade [via Ierosolimitana] was initiated. This decree granted rights over churches to the princes who conquered them.
