[293] The patriarch of Jerusalem and the magistri of the Hospital of St John and the Knights Templar write to Pope Innocent III, in response for his request for reports on the situation there. They provide a dynastic history of the Ayyubids and focus on the domestic life of the sultan al-‘Adil, but also suggest that the Muslims are prepared to surrender the Holy Land to the pope.
