text: (c. 1200). Pope Innocent III writes to the canons of the church of Bethlehem in relation to a disputed election to the bishopric, between R. subdiaconus (of Bethlehem) [268] and P. canonicus sepulcri domini. The case had already been heard in Rome, but has not been resolved. Meanwhile the pope condemns V. canonicus Bethlehemitanus, who had accepted a bribe of 500 Saracen besants for his vote in the election, for simony and deprives him of office.
