The lands involved are as follows. The monks have a pecia terre, which is adjacent to the land of Balatas and next to the viridarium S. Salvatoris. This belonged to the casale of Aschar, but on it is planted a vineyard belonging to the casale of Balatas. Another pecia terre, which Tarcanus held and belonged to the casale of Balatas, has been [exchanged] by the abbess of St Lazarus and nuns for land held by Beseror, which depended on the casale of Aschar. Ahuhisa Palmerii domina, daughter of the late dominus Amfossius and heiress of dominus Petrus de Castello, with the agreement of her husband dominus Rainaldus makes an eleemosynary grant to the abbey of Mt Tabor and Johannes Montis Tabor abbas. She gives the houses that had been occupied by frater Pelagius at Palmerium, which is called Solinum, a new house that [abbas Johannes] constructed when he was prior there, all the property adjoining it as far as the Gate of Cayra, an oven in which no burgensis can cook, because its use is reserved to the abbey’s familia, and all the land that frater Pelagius had in the territory of Palmerium, except for a pettius terre, which lies at the foot of the mountain. Ahuhisa also gives the burgenses of Palmerium free use of their possessions according to the customs [ad usum et consuetudinem] of Buria, except that they may not sell to milites or professed religious, saving her rights as lord. Misdemeanours by familiares of the abbey will not be judged by the lord of Palmerium but by the bajulus ecclesie, although fines will be rendered to the lord of Palmerium. text: May 15. Velletri. Pope Alexander III grants privileges and confirmation to Rodericus magister domus sancte Marie Montis Gaudii de Jerusalem and his professed brothers. He takes the Order of Montjoie under papal protection and approves a Rule based on that of the Cistercians, with exceptions for those brothers engaged in warfare. He confirms the following possessions: the locus [on] Mons Gaudii where the house of the Order is situated, outside the walls of Jerusalem; Toanasaba given by King Baldwin III, the Turris Puellarum with 3 other towers and a garden adjacent in the city of Ascalon; 100 besants [aurei] drawn annually from the funda of Ascalon; Palmaria given by Guido de Scandalione; 300 besants [aurei] drawn annually from the logia in Acre where bread is sold; 400 besants [aurei] drawn annually from the Gate of David [in Jerusalem] ; and properties in Iberia. [165] The Order is permitted to build oratories in remote places. It is exempted from much episcopal jurisdiction, although its churches should be subject to local bishops and it should show respect to the abbot of Cîteaux. It is freed from the payment of tithes and first fruits on lands cultivated by the brothers themselves or providing animal fodder or on newly established churches and villae in deserted places. It can admit secular priests and laymen.

On the advice of Patriarch Aimery and with his barones, Bohemond III, son of Prince Raymond, divina dignatione princeps Antiochenus, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to Petrus Ferrandus militie beati Iacobi et Spate magister and his convent, recording that he has given them Castellum Vetule, except for the [property] that Guillelmus Bucellus retained when he returned the castellum to the prince and except for the 4 casalia of Bessil, Carnehalia, Neni and Nenenta, which are held by the Templars and except for Ifala and 2 gastinae held by the Templars. Bohemond has given the castellum des Gerrennes, except for those casalia [in its territory] which the Vetulus Assideorum holds with the prince’s agreement. He has also given Gerras, Baldenia, Buckebis and Gipsum, except for the villani of Montana Revelata, should they wish to live down on the plain and migrate to the lands of the prince or his barones. If any of the barones wish to make eleemosynary grants to the Order they can give rents in assisia, whether of 100 besants or 1500, 500 or 25. The grant is made on condition that if Petrus Ferrandus and his brother knights [fratres milites] arrive within a year from this September they will help conquer the territories given them. They will then have them in feodum in perpetuity. If they do not come the prince is free to decide whether to withdraw the endowment or give it to whomsoever he pleases.
