He grants freedom to export and import by land or sea, buy and sell everything needed for the hospital throughout the principality of Antioch without the payment of any mercatura or consuetudo. Patriarch [Aymar] Monachus of Jerusalem records an agreement, made with dominus Willelmus de Amigdalea, acting on his own behalf and of that of his wife domina Agnes, the daughter of comes Ioscelinus. The agreement, made under the seals of the patriarch and the king in the curia and in the presence of King Aimery of Jerusalem and dominus Rainaldus Sydonis, the uncle of Agnes, concerns the casale called Ieth, which will be possessed with all its villani by the patriarch for his lifetime. After the patriarch’s death it will revert to Willelmus, his wife and their heirs. Aimery, dei gratia rex Ierusalem nonus et rex Cipri, records that Paulus and his brother, the sons of Theodericus de Sarepta, came into his presence and that of his curia and also of the curia of his iurati, and renounced their claims to a house with a garden in Tyre, which the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans had been given in a charter by comes Henricus and his wife domna Isabella, regis Amalrici filia. At Aimery’s request the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans give Paulus and his brother 200 besants. With the agreement of his wife the Lady Queen Isabella, Aimery confirms under seal the brothers and the sick of St Mary of the Germans in possession of the house and garden. text: Sept. 23. Genoa. In the house of Willelmus Embriacus. Oto Iudex de Castello swears on oath that he will hold the ruga de Sancto Laurentio in Acre according to the usus et consuetudo terre on behalf of the city of Genoa and at the orders of Willelmus Embriacus maior and Willelmus Embriacus iunior for 2 years from the next Easter. He will send all rents and money to Willelmus or his representatives. He will travel on the business of the ruga to Antioch, Tripoli, Gibelletum or other places. He will accept nothing in relation to the vicecomitia except on the mandate of Willelmus Embriacus maior, who with his relation Willelmus Embriacus minor confirms Oto in the tenure of the ruga Sancti Laurentii and all revenues from overseas and allows Oto to subtract his expenses from his returns. Oto may also keep 150 librae in Syrian besants [bisancii Sulie] each year, together with provisions that may be offered to him. text: Oct. 12. Acre. In palatio sancte Marie Latine. With the agreement of his chapter, Tebaldus Acconensis ecclesie episcopus seals an agreement with the consules of the Pisans in Acre, Guido Paganus, Enricus Magialis and Ugo Leimattilde, on the parochial rights of the Pisan church of St Peter. The priest there has the right to baptize, hear confessions, bury and visit the sick among the Pisans who are taxed as Pisans. The rights to marry extend over the area of Acre that stretches from the church of St Laurence to the porta Tarsane and from the Caput Furoris to the Burgus novus, but saving the rights of the churches of St Andrew and St Michael. If those outside this district wish to marry in the Pisan church, half the oblations must go to the cathedral clergy. Any non-Pisan living in the district is free to marry in whatever church he wishes, unless he wishes to marry a Pisan. The priest of the Pisan church should go once a year to the mother church of Acre to receive the oil of chrism. The Pisans should not receive those excommunicated by the bishop, but the bishop promises always to give the priest of St Peter each year oil of chrism and oil of the sick. The consules promise to pay annually on the Feast of All Saints a census for the church of St Peter of 4 Saracen besants, and and they will pay a rent [census] of 12 besants on the Feast of All Saints for the tower they have built on church land. Pope Innocent III writes to the canons of the church of Bethlehem in relation to a disputed election to the bishopric, between R. subdiaconus (of Bethlehem) [268] and P. canonicus sepulcri domini. The case had already been heard in Rome, but has not been resolved. Meanwhile the pope condemns V. canonicus Bethlehemitanus, who had accepted a bribe of 500 Saracen besants for his vote in the election, for simony and deprives him of office.
