[328] With the consent of his daughter Ysabella, John, dei gratia Latinorum Ierusalem rex decimus, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to frater Hermannus magister domus Hospitalis sancte Marie Theutonicorum Ierusalem and his brothers. On account of the religion and good reputation of the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans, he gives them his share of loot in future warfare when they are campaigning with his homines under the royal banner [cum signo regali], although he is absent. When he is present he will retain his share, which is half of all booty taken in towns [villae] or castles, in the field or in an expedition. In the presence of King John of Jerusalem and his curia, Iniorannus dominus Bove sells under seal to the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans, represented by frater Hermannus magister domus sancte Marie Teutonicorum Ierusalem, a house in Tyre and its dependencies for 1000 Saracen besants of Acre weight, which has already been paid. The brothers can do whatever they wish with the house, although they may not dispose of it to churchmen or religious communities. The house is bordered on the east by the sea, which washes at the house’s foot. On the west it extends as far as the street [vicus] that leads to the tannery [la taneria]. On the south it is next to a house belonging to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, which once belonged to Sancha Martin, and on the north it extends as far as the house of Eustacius Buseka and his brothers. text: Before May. [330] On the advice of dominus Eustorgius Nicosiensis archiepiscopus and dominus L. abbas Bellimontis, M. abbatissa and the conventus Sancte Marie Magdalene Acconensis Cisterciensis ordinis record that they have unanimously agreed to elevate their house in Nicosia to an abbey. The first abbess will be elected in the house of the nuns in Acre and will then transfer her rule to Cyprus. Thereafter the election of an abbess will be made by the convent in Nicosia according to the Benedictine Rule as observed by the Cistercians, although it will be monitored by the abbess in Acre, or by the prioress or any other discreet sister sent from Acre. A new abbess in Nicosia will be presented to the archbishop of Nicosia and will profess obedience according to the form adopted by the Cistercian Order and is in use in Acre with respect to the bishop of Acre. The abbey in Nicosia will bury no parishioner of Nicosia without the archbishop’s licence and will receive the oil of the infirm from him in the same way as is done in Acre. The document is sealed by dominus E. Nicosiensis archiepiscopus, by dominus L. abbas Bellimontis and by abbatissa Sancte Marie Magdalene de Accon.

Cardinal Pelagius of Albano, the papal legate, issues a sealed confirmation of the sale made by Simon Tirensis archiepiscopus, in the presence of Patriarch Ralph of Jerusalem, the bishops of Bethlehem and Valenia [Valiensis], the magister of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, and the abbots of Mt Sion, Templum Domini, and St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, to Eustorgius Nicosiensis archiepiscopus of the casale in Cyprus called Livadi for 2200 Saracen besants. The casale had been given to the archbishop and church of Tyre by King Aimery. The magister of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem promised to transfer the cash to the archbishop of Tyre.
