Guigo de Blavone/Blahomio, a monk of Grandmont, writes to the provost and canons of St Junien of Condom, in an attempt to demonstrate the authenticity of relics brought back from the Holy Land by him and his companions – Stephanus; v. de Adarnac; de Daurato; Imbertus frater noster; Gaufredus Calvus; Gaufredus Coena; Bernardus miles noster – although the seals of authentication were stolen on the journey home. The relics, which are listed, were presented by the patriarch of Jerusalem, qui mihi domesticus erat and a close friend; magister Stephanus capellanus de Inventione; abbatissa S. Mariae Latinae, ‘who originated from our part of the world’; Johannes capellanus de Napplio et frater Hospitalis; the bishop of Bethlehem; the abbot of the Templum Domini; the abbot of Mt Sion; the abbot of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat; the prior of the Mount of Olives; the prior of Hebron; the prior of the Holy Sepulchre; the patriarch of Antioch; the archbishop of Mt Sinai; the abbot of Sinai; and the countess of Edessa.

text: May. Tyre? With the agreement of his wife and his son Anfredus, Anfridus [de Torone], makes an eleemosynary grant to the leprosary of St Lazarus. He gives it a rent of 30 besants, to be paid from the returns, which are commonly called cavages, of his villani in the casale of Turron. The rent will be paid annually on the Feast of St Hilary. Humphrey has his gift authenticated with the seal of Petrus Tirensis ecclesie archiepiscopus, who threatens with excommunication anyone who violates this donation. text: Dec. 25 1150 – Sept. 23 1151. Melisende, dei gratia Iherosolimorum regina, confirms an exchange made in the reign of her husband King Fulk between Johannes Patricius and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre. This involved the 2 casalia of Megina and Mezera being exchanged for the 2 casalia of Caphermelich and Anquina. It had been approved in Melisende’s presence by Babinus, from whom Johannes held the casalia in feodum, by Petrosus, the brother-in-law of Johannes, by Bruna, the wife of Johannes, and by their sons Thomas and Eustachius, on condition that if any challenge to the exchange arose the canons of the Holy Sepulchre would be obliged to restore the casalia to Johannes and his heirs. A challenge was made in King Fulk’s reign and the Holy Sepulchre appealed to the crown. Melisende therefore confirms the exchange under seal. To compensate the leprosary of St Lazarus, which owned the mill, she makes a sealed eleemosynary gift to St Lazarus of a 5 terre carruatae of vines on the plain of Bethlehem on condition that Georgius and Salomon, the cultivators of the vineyard, receive half the produce of their labour. Raimundus Hospitalis sancte Iherusalem pauperum Christi dispensator, records that, with the agreement of Count Raymond II of Tripoli, his wife Countess Hodierna and his son Raimundus, he has bought 2 casalia, called Kafarrique and Fellara, and houses in Castellum Album from domina Armensendis de Castro Novo, with the agreement of her daughters Ugona and Berengaria and of Leodogarius, the husband of Ugona. Raimundus also accepts houses in burgo, given in alms by Count Raymond of Tripoli, together with a casale called Cendina, which is across the river, and a vineyard which had belonged to Hassennus Riserius. He also acquired the houses in castello left to the Hospital by Rigaudus, who has died.
