text: Aug. 1-31. Johan de Gibeleth, the son of the late Guillaume de Gibeleth, records under seal that he has reached agreement with the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, represented by frere Guillaume de Chasteauneuf maistre, over a dispute about the grinding [moiture] of his mill called the molin de la Mer, which the Order claimed he had given as an eleemosynary grant to its commandery [maison] in Tripoli. He confirms that the commandery [maison] in Tripoli can grind freely each week 100 marcibans of wheat, of the measure of the port of Tripoli, for the brothers, the sick and its household [mahnée], employing the first grindstone at the mill that it finds unused. If the full measure cannot be ground in one week, it can be made up the next, but should there be a failure through the fault of the brothers or their men, or because the mill breaks down, the amount cannot be recovered. Frater Hermannus Petragoricensis pauperis militia Templi minister humilis writes to Brother Robert de Sanford, Templar praeceptor in England. He describes how the sultan of Egypt and Nasserus offered them all the land to the west of the River Jordan. But the sultan of Egypt retained the Christian emissaries, including Knights Templar, for more than 6 months, went back on his words and held on to Gaza, Hebron, Nablus and Darannum. The Christians then turned to the sultan of Damascus and made a truce with him and with Nasserus the lord of Kerak. The sultan of Damascus and lord of Kerak would return all the land west of the River Jordan, except for Hebron, Nablus and Bossanum and agreed to the expulsion of all Sarraceni from Jerusalem, so that after 56 years the Christian liturgy could be celebrated throughout the city. This agreement was controversial, so that on the Knights Templar, the prelates and a few barons rest the defence of the Holy Land. The Knights Templar guard the entry to the land at Gaza, with the assistance of the sultan of Damascus and Nasserus lord of Kerak. They also propose to build a powerful castle near Jerusalem above Toronum.

text: Jul. 7. Acre. In palatio magistri hospitalis sancte Marie Theotonicorum. Frater Henricus de Honloch magister and the chapter of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans on one side, and dominus Iacobus de Amigdala on the other, reach an agreement, sealed with the seals of the chapter and of Iacobus, over certain charters of comes Iozolinus relating to the land of Maron, rents of 7000 besants, which Iozolinus had from the funda and cathena of Acre, and other rights which Iozolinus had in the kingdom of Jerusalem. Iacobus claimed half of these by reason of his inheritance from his mother domina Agnes, the daughter of comes Iozolinus. After the intervention of friends, the parties agree the following. With the consent of his brothers in convent, frater Henricus recognizes Iacobus as the legitimate heir and invests him with half of Maron, half of the rents of 7000 besants, and half of the rights of Iozolinus in the kingdom of Jerusalem. Dominus Iacobus de Amigdalia renounces claims to the other half of Maron and the other rents and rights of Iozolinus. He agrees that the original charters should be held by the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans, who had bought the estates from domina Beatrix, the first-born daughter of Iozolinus, reserving claims to half of other properties, should they be restored to Christian hands. He promises never to challenge his sale to the Order of half of Castrum Regis for 6400 besants. or his leasing to the Order of half of Maron for an annual rent of 2500 besants, which is described in a separate charter. He agrees that should other properties, at present held by the Sarraceni, return to Christian hands, he will seek arbitration. He will never encourage any other individual to take action against the Order. Any breach of this agreement will carry a penalty of 2000 marchae argenti.
