She assigned as a marriage portion [dotis nomine] 300 besants to the daughter of Willelmus, raised on a statio in the rua Surianorum, which they held of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. Forced by necessity, Petronilla and Adam have the agreement of Willelmus and his daughter to act as they please with respect to the statio. They give the statio as an alms-gift to the Hospital, receiving in charity 360 besants, and with the agreement of the chapter of the Hospital they raise the marriage portion of 300 besants on lands and houses that they hold of the Hospital in Cacho. At this time Gibertus magister Hospitalis is overseas. [113] Bohemond III, son of Prince Raymond, Dei gratia princeps Antiochenus, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, Girbertus Hospitalis magister and his brothers. He gives Rochefort with an abbatia, Cava, Levonia, Tala, Bachfela, Gaigon, Glorieta with a spring that waters the gardens, casale S. Egidii with the torone de Belda, half of Rogia together with the other half which Bohemond has acquired from Reinaldus Masoerius and his heirs, Arcicant, Farmith, Femia with its lake, Logis, Bochabes with the casale de Pailes; other lordships and liege lordships [dominationes et liggianciae] that Femia has in Syria, Berssaphut, castellum de Lacoba and Totomota. With the consent of the inhabitants, Bohemond concedes all these, together with his lordships and liege lordships in them, with the agreement of those who have rights, feoda and heritages. The Hospitallers can make war and peace with neighbouring Muslim powers as they please and, when notified, Bohemond will observe them. On the other hand neither he nor his homines will make treaties with the Sarraceni, nor with any Christians allied to them, without the advice of the Hospitallers. If the Hospitallers are not consulted they can react as they please. They can enjoy all the proceeds of the spoils of war. Galterus/Galterius princeps Galilee records under seal that Fulco conestabilis Thabarie and Paganus de Caypha came to his curia and with his consent made the following agreement. Paganus gave Fulco the following: Gybesovart, Due Gobie, Mogar, Gatregalee, Galafiee, Romane, Sellem and all the other land he held of Galterus. Fulco gave Paganus an annual rent of 850 Saracen besants, made up of 500 Saracen besants drawn annually from the meat market [macellum] of Acre, given by King Amalric to Fulco in return for the surrender of his castrum of Saphet which Amalric gave in an eleemosynary grant to the Templars [milicia Templi], and 350 besants from the rent of 700 Saracen besants paid each year to Fulco by the Templars for the building [sartus] he had he had given them. In return for the 850 Saracen besants, Paganus de Caypha will continue to provide the service of 1 miles that he rendered for the above named casalia every time there will be war on the frontiers with the Sarraceni and Galterus requires it. This agreement was made in the presence and with the agreement of King Amalric, and with the agreement of Galterus princeps Galilee and his wife E[schiva]. On behalf of his heirs, Galterus guarantees to Paganus de Caypha that any short fall in the 850 Saracen besants will be made up from the revenues of Legio. Balduinus and his heirs will hold of the monks of St Mary the casale called Cafarcos, which Queen Melisende gave St Mary in alms, together with the land which descends as far as the water from Cavea. He will pay St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat 80 besants a year, due within 15 days of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. If he or his heirs break this agreement, the casale, together with any buildings and improvements, will revert to St Mary. To prevent the loss of the castles [castra] of Archas and Gibelacar, which have been destroyed by an earthquake, Amalric, dei gratia Ierosolimorum rex Latinorum quintus, Tripolitanum comitatum procurans, records under seal that he has given them to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and Gibertus venerabilis magister. The Hospitallers will restore them. Their possession of the castles, together with the servicia and hominium owed by homines in their domains, is guaranteed in the future. He gives the Hospitallers the right to enjoy the spoils of war gained from the Saraceni without any subtraction, unless he himself is present on campaign. If the count of Tripoli [Raymond III], who is a prisoner, should dispute these grants King Amalric will defend the Hospitallers. If the count is released from captivity King Amalric will ask him to confirm the gift. If he does not and the county reverts by hereditary right to the king, the grants will be confirmed and renewed. Amalric confirms all gifts previously made to the Order by the count and his predecessors.
