text: Dec. 24. With the agreement of her sisters, Maria, monasterii S. Marie Magdalene in Accon ordinis Cisterciensis abbatissa, records that she has received from frater Guarinus de Monte Acuto sancte domus Hospitalis Iherusalem magister et Christi pauperum custos and his brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem houses with a platea for a rent, payable each Christmas, of 25 Saracen besants, which will not be affected by any damage that might occur to the houses. The rental agreement has been confirmed in a charter issued by the Hospital of St John. The houses with the platea are situated in the suburb of Acre, in the place commonly called Mons Musardus. On the east they front on to the public way that goes from S. Egidius to the Magdalena. On the south they adjoin the land of Guido de Glia Pisanus. On the west is another public way and on the north they adjoin the abbey of S. Maria Magdalena. At the request of the nuns of S. Maria Magdalena, magister Petrus prior dominici Sepulchri, vicarius domini patriarche, and the chapter of the church of Acre affix their seals. text: Jan. 10. Lateran. The bishop of Tortosa [Anteradensis episcopus] has complained to Pope Honorius III about the behaviour of the Knights Templar. Lordship of the city of Tortosa is divided between the bishop and the Templars, but the latter, breaking the terms of division laid down a century ago, have ignored the bishop’s lordship [dominium], treating his part as their own, taking control of the city gate that belongs to the church, publicly proclaiming [bannum proclamare] that they have full rights and impeding the operation of the bishop’s meat market [becaria] and the freedom of merchants to sell his grain and wine. They have built 2 new churches in their part of the city, in which they have installed Greek priests [Greci presbyteri] in defiance of the bishop and the Holy See. They have refused to pay their dues, including tithes, to the bishopric, according to the evidence provided by their own rustici Sarraceni, and they have detained tribute paid by [the town of] Coeblum. They have denied the bishop his parochial rights at Castellum Album. The pope gravely rebukes the magister and brothers of the Knights Templar. He orders them to make satisfaction and informs them that he has ordered the archbishops of Tyre and Caesarea and the bishop of Acre to enforce his judgement.

text: Mar. 8. Lateran. At the request of the abbas Sancte Marie de Episcopia, Pope Honorius III takes the abbey under papal protection, establishing the religious life of the canons, who follow the rule of St Augustine as Premonstratensians. He confirms its possessions, specifically the place [locus] where it is situated and the casale called Prestia. The abbey is exempted from the payment of tithes on noval lands. It may receive postulants, is exempt from interdicts and may receive chrism from from the diocesan bishop. No one may build a chapel or oratory in its parrochia without episcopal assent. The laity can choose burial by the monks, who may recover tithes appropriated by laymen. The election of abbots should be free. No crime can be committed on the abbey’s property.
