text: Apr. 4. Acre. Johannes de Ybelino dominus Berithi and Johannes dominus Cesaree Palestine record under their seals that they are guarantors of the sale of houses made in the court of Acre [in curia Acconensi] by Johannes de Ybelino, the son of the late Philippus de Ybelino, to frater Gerinus sancte domus Hospitalis Jerusalem magister and the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. These houses adjoin on one side a house belonging to the Hospital of St John and on the other another house of the Hospital, in which the princess [principissa] lives, and a house of dominus Manabous. Behind them is the city ditch [doga fossati civitatis] and they face on to the public way. The guarantors promise to defend the sale from [any claim made by] Aelisia comitissa, the wife of the late Philippus de Ybelino, and her daughter Maria, according to the usages and customs of the city of Acre. Witnesses: Stefanus Boutier vicecomes Acconensis; and of the jurati curie Acconensis, Guido Antelmi; Bernardus de Conchis; Andreas de Vienna; Raimundus de Conchis; Alanus; Iterus; Seignoretus.

Informed by the archbishop of Nicosia and his suffragans that the king of Cyprus, the queen and others continue to prevent the carrying out of the agreement between the king, the queen, the late Ph. de Ybellino balius, the conestabulus, barones, milites and others on one side and the church of Cyprus on the other, which had been mediated by the late Cardinal Pelagius of Albano, employing frivolous arguments and illegitimate appeals, and that the patriarch of Jerusalem is reluctant to proceed without papal advice, Pope Gregory IX orders the patriarch, as papal legate, to enforce the agreement and compel the crown to restore the tithes it owes.

text: Apr. 9. Rieti. Writing to the abbas et conventus monasterii Episcopie, in the diocese of Nicosia, Pope Gregory IX recalls that when the abbey was founded, due to the generosity of the king of Jerusalem, it adopted the Augustinian Rule and, with the agreement of T. archiepiscopus Nicosiensis, was incorporated into the Premonstratensian Order, but that the papal letter confirming the Order’s rights of visitation failed to mention the archbishop’s rights to obedience and the oath the abbot should make to him. The pope, therefore, orders the patriarch of Antioch, the papal legate, the archiepiscopus Appamiensis and P. canonicus Antiochensis to investigate and, if they find that the pope has been told the truth, to forbid the use of the previous papal letter and to order the abbas to accord the archbishop his rights of obedience and reverence.
