text: Feb. 1. Raymond [of Poitiers], Dei gratia Antiochenus princeps, with the agreement of his wife Constancia, only daughter of Prince Bohemond II, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. He confirms all that Bohemond II, his wife’s father, and Tancred and other princes and barones of Antioch gave in alms to the Order. He refers especially to a boat [grippus] on the Lake [of Antioch] with that freedom [of use] that Adam de Guirchia castellanus and his other barones possessed, and to the house built in Antioch by Barutellus and his wife Sarracena, which was to pass to the Order after the death of Barutellus. Raymond confirms gifts that would be made of casalia and gastinae, and all to be given in alms, provided that the fiefs of knights [feodum militis] are not diminished so that the curia loses servicium. He lists in Antioch: a house with a garden next to it near the church of St John Chrysostom; a cavuta in the vicus of the Amalfitans; and a little house [domumcula] in the vicus of St Paul; outside Antioch, the casalia of Assis, Ursan and Melessin given by Bohemond [of Taranto]; the casale of Balilas in the territory of Harenc; the casale of Churar in the territory of Aronia; the casale of Cizenburg in the territory of Turbassellum; before Tilium the gastina of Aganir and the casalia of Gadir and Ubre; the casale of Sarata in the territory of Mamistra; the casale of Muserac in the territory of Cafardam. Raymond gives the Hospital the freedom to import and export, buy and sell throughout his land without paying dues [consuetudines/ exactio curie]. Witnesses: Johannes cancellarius, who wrote the charter; Rogerius constabularies; Leo Maiopoli dux; Petrus Armoini castellanus; Schivardus dapifer;Petrus Salvarici pincerna; Garinus Malmut marescalcus; Willelmus Tirelli marescalcus; Symon frater ejus; Petrus vicecomes.

Together with the king of Jerusalem, the Templars hastened to the assistance of Antioch, which the Muslims [Parthi] had invaded. The Templar force consisted of 120 knights [milites], together with up to 1,000 well armed sergeants [armigeri et servientes]. Even before they had reached the Pons Tyri they had borrowed 7,000 besants of Acre and 1,000 besants of Jerusalem. A. begs the master to appeal to the king of France for help, describing the danger and destruction of crops around Antioch and the parlous state of the Order of the Temple. He beseeches the master to return as soon as possible with brother Templars from the West.
