text: December 22. Lyons. Pope Innocent IV writes to Bishops [Arnaud] of Lydda and [Étienne] of Beirut, relating that, according to the petition of Master Filippo canon of Tripoli, chaplain of the cardinal-priest of Santa Sabina H[ugues de Saint-Cher], when the pope understood that Filippo’s prebends in the church of Tripoli were vacant, he conferred one of them on the canon five years ago and ordered that Filippo be received as canon in that church and given the next vacant prebend, and if one was not vacant then, assigning certain executors for this. Although the cantor and treasurer and some other canons of the church received him according to the pope’s mandate, and several others agreed, and he was invested with the canonry by the late archdeacon of Acre, one of the executors, Filippo has not yet obtained a prebend, although several became vacant afterwards, since the late bishop of Tripoli (Alberto Roberti) (Nephew of the patriarch of Antioch, Alberto Roberti) was opposed. Since Filippo is fatigued by the labour and expense of arguing the case with the bishop in the papal curia, he asked for a solution. The pope confirms the canonry, supplying whatever may be lacking, and orders the addressees to assign to Filippo a prebend as soon as they can, declaring anything done against this null and void, notwithstanding any appeals that the bishop may have once launched to the Apostolic See, any exceptions proposed against the canon, and various other potential obstacles.

text: January 12. Lyons. Pope Innocent IV writes to the archbishop of Tyre, stating that in the pope’s and cardinal’s presence the archbishop related how on the pope’s written orders the papal legate cardinal-deacon O[ttaviano Ubaldini] of Santa Maria in Via Lata took over as the right and property of St Peter the churches of St Mark of Tyre and of St Mark of Acre, which were said to belong to the church of St Mark of Venice, firmly forbidding anyone from presuming to exercise jurisdiction over them without papal mandate. As a token of this exemption the legate established that the primicerius and chapter of St Mark of Venice would pay the apostolic camera two besants annually on the feast of All Saints, as contained more fully in the cardinal’s letter concerning this. The addressee complained that this exemption causes serious and obvious harm to the church of Tyre, especially since the tithes and other episcopal rights in the church of St Mark of Tyre are thereby taken away, asking for an indemnity for himself and the church of Tyre. The pope grants that the exemption shall not generate any prejudice for him and the church of Tyre regarding such tithes and rights from the church of St Mark of Tyre.
