text: . February 18. Perugia. Pope Innocent IV writes to the patriarch of Jerusalem (Robert de Nantes) and the bishop of Lydda, relating that he was informed on behalf of Brother Hugues de Nissun, relative of the late master of the Temple G[uillaume], that when at one time the pope ordered the patriarch to confer on him the episcopacy of Sebaste, in the province of Caesarea, which under Saracen occupation for more than 20 years was said to have been vacant for a long time, the patriarch did not proceed because the [arch]bishop of Caesarea had de facto appointed the absent dean of Caesarea to the see of Sebaste on his own authority, although he could not de iure and for a long time after the appointment the dean was not found to have assented, as is said. The pope wishes the grace that he initiated come into effect, so he orders the patriarch to proceed without difficulty with the appointment of Brother H[ugues] to the episcopacy of Sebaste according to the pope’s earlier letter, notwithstanding the appointment of the dean or the general revocation of appointments of bishops or abbots that the pope recently ordered.

text: . March 8. Jaffa. Bishop Arnoldus of Saint Georgius of Lydda (Liddensis) and Bishop-Elect G[aufridus] of Bethlehem (Bethlemitanus) write to Matheus, canon and preceptor of the Holy Sepulchre, informing him that they have received the mandate of Pope Innocent (see RRR 2846 from 11 January 1252). Since they have to reside in Jaffa with the Christian army, they are unable to have personal knowledge at present about the lawsuits and quarrels of said bishop [of Hebron] and his chapter, so they commit their role to the addressee, reserving the definitive sentence. text: . March 18. Perugia. Pope Innocent IV writes to the master and brothers of the house of the knighthood of the Temple of Jerusalem, relating that their petition claimed that, at one time, the pope wrote to the [cardinal-]bishop of Tusculum (Frascati) and papal legate [Eudes de Châteauroux] concerning a sum of money that the late Patriarch G[erold de Lausanne] had deposited with the addressees while alive. The pope ordered the legate to assign one third to the patriarch of Jerusalem [Robert de Nantes], G[erold]’s successor, and, on the advice of King [Louis IX] of France and the same patriarch, to convert the other two thirds to the support of the Holy Land. Because the addressees claim to be under crushing debt, however, they asked the pope to supply some relief. The pope grants that for two years they cannot be forced to pay the shares of the money that concern the legate and the patriarch [of Jerusalem], but they shall pay to the patriarch of Antioch, [Opizo Fieschi] without difficulty or delay the third that the pope established for him in another mandate, notwithstanding the fact that the addresses promised to pay fixed portions to the legate and patriarch of Jerusalem.
